The highlights are weaker at sunset than day, although reflective surfaces still appear very strong, and the shadows are still very strong and become longer as the the light source (the sun) becomes closer to the horizon.

In the example above the nearest object has a lower darkest value than the object behind. This is unusual as we associate the lighest lights and the darkest darks with the foreground usually.
